Do I need to import my library?

No. NXTCue reads the currently playing track from supported apps and does not modify your music library.

What does Auto suggest tracks do?

Accepted Answer

When enabled, NXTCue polls about every 1.5 seconds and updates Track Detected automatically. If no API key is configured, it skips AI requests until one is available. When disabled, Track Detected appears only after you click Suggest tracks with a valid key.

Which AI models can I use?

OpenAI: GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Terra, GPT-5.6 Luna, GPT-5 (gpt-5.5), and GPT-5.4 Nano. Thinking Machines: Inkling, Inkling (256K), Inkling-Small, and Inkling-Small (256K). The default model is Inkling-Small.

Are AI credits included?

No. Recommendations require your own funded OpenAI or Thinking Machines Tinker API key. Keys for both providers are stored separately.

Can I move my license?

Yes. One license seat can be active on one device at a time. Open Configuration → License, select Deactivate this device, then activate the new device.

How do I check for updates?

Accepted Answer

Open About from the information button in the header, or NXTCue → About NXTCue on macOS. About checks for updates and shows a Download button when a newer version is available.

Track Detected does not update on its own

Accepted Answer

Enable Auto suggest tracks in Configuration if you want Track Detected to refresh automatically. With Auto suggest tracks off, Track Detected appears only after a successful Suggest tracks request, which requires an API key.

No track is detected

Accepted Answer

Make sure the track is actively playing, not only loaded or highlighted. Pause other media apps so NXTCue does not pick up a different OS media session. Spotify and Apple Music ignore paused playback on purpose.

Question 11

Serato does not show the playing deck

Accepted Answer

Serato must be running, and the track must reach Serato’s played / performance-history state. Loading a song onto a deck is not enough. NXTCue follows the newest active history entry, not a track that is only loaded on another deck.

rekordbox decks are not detected on macOS

Accepted Answer

Grant Accessibility for NXTCue under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, and keep the main rekordbox window available in Performance mode. After rebuilding or moving the app, remove NXTCue from that list, re-enable it for the binary you actually launch (/Applications or ~/Applications), then restart NXTCue.

VirtualDJ detection feels delayed

VirtualDJ writes history only after its historyDelay setting, which defaults to 45 seconds. For faster automatic detection, open VirtualDJ Settings → Options, search for historyDelay, and set it to 1 or 5 seconds. You can also wait for history to update, then click Suggest tracks.

djay Pro does not detect the loaded track

Accepted Answer

Loading or highlighting a track is not enough. Start playback so the song enters the current History session. Detection then follows that history item’s start time and duration.

Question 15

Mixxx is playing but nothing appears

Accepted Answer

Confirm that Mixxx’s main window title contains the playing artist and title, and that the track exists in the Mixxx library. NXTCue clears Track Detected once Mixxx clears its current-playing title.

The offline activation screen appears

Accepted Answer

Reconnect to the internet and select Try again. Startup validation must succeed before the rest of the app is available.

The license is already in use

Accepted Answer

On the previously activated computer, open Configuration → License, select Deactivate this device, confirm, then activate your current computer.

Question 18

The track is detected, but recommendations fail

Accepted Answer

Use the API key that matches the selected provider: OpenAI models need an OpenAI API Key, and Thinking Machines models need a Tinker API Key. Detection and recommendations are separate — a song can still show as Track Detected when the recommendation service is unavailable.
